Time period

Until the date on which the child reaches three years of age.

Until the date on which the child reaches one year of age. However, in the case in which both parents take child care leave (hereinafter designated as the “Papa & Mama Child Care Leave Plus”), until one year and two months of age.
(However, when either the staff member or the spouse takes child care leave on the day on which the child reaches one year of age, it might be extended to one year and six months by meeting any of the following criteria.)
(1) In a case in which the staff member wishes to obtain and has applied for nursery care at day nursery, the implementation will not be conducted for the time being.
(2) In the case in which the spouse is in any of the following situations.
a. When the spouse has died.
b. When the spouse has difficulty caring for children because of an injury, illness, or a physical or mental disorder.
c. When the spouse no longer lives with the child because of marriage dissolution or other reasons.
d. When the spouse is to give birth within six weeks (in the case of multiple pregnancy, 14 weeks), or when eight weeks have not passed since childbirth.

Pay

Pay shall not be given. (In the case in which the staff member has worked before the base date for a term-end allowance, a term-end allowance shall be paid according to the period.)

Pay shall not be given. (A daily staff member who is a recipient of a term-end allowance will be treated the same as a full-time staff member.)

Financial compensation

(1) Employees who have worked for more than 12 months each of which includes 11 days or more days during the two years preceding the date of starting the child care leave (including days given a paid leave, as well as periods worked outside the university).

Until the day preceding the date on which the child reaches one year of age, in principle.

Personnel recruitment system

The part-time staff member shall retain part-time staff member status and be reinstated in the former position.

Those to whom any of the following applies.
(1) A person who has been employed by the university for a continuous period of less than one year.
(2) A person who is unlikely to remain employed after the day on which the child reaches one year of age (including a person whose labor contract will expire and for whom it will clearly not be renewed during the subsequent year from the day on which the child reaches one year of age).

Partial Child Care Leave

Time period

Until the date on which the child reaches three years of age, a full-time staff member might shorten the daily working hours either to 5 hr 45 min, 6 hr 15 min, 6 hr 45 min, or to 7 hr 15 min.

Until the date on which the child reaches three years of age, a part-time staff member might shorten the daily working hours to 6 hr, in principle.

Pay

For the time not working, the university shall reduce the amount of pay per working hour.

For the time not working, the university shall, for one hour, reduce the amount of pay per working hour.

A written request must be made before one month in advance of starting the leave.

Up to six months. However, in a case in which a full-time staff member takes a family care leave for the first time, a period between two weeks and six months (conforming to “Family Care Leave” for national public officers).

Up to 93 days (in total; based on the Child Care and Family Care Act).

The university shall reduce the pay for the time on leave.

Time period

The required period within three years from the start of the partial family care leave. The required hours within four hours from the starting time and the finishing time.

Up to the 93rd day (in total), the working hours per day might be shortened to six hours.
In a case in which the part-time staff member took a family care leave, the period shall be summed.

Pay

During time not working, the university shall, for one hour, reduce the amount of pay per working hour.

During time not working, the university shall, for one hour, reduce the amount of pay per working hour.

Application procedure

A written request must be made in advance.

Written requests must be made before two weeks in advance of the start of the leave.
